To reach new patients, it is not enough to produce new marketing materials, or be ready to operate in a new language. Any plan to bring a new community into your business needs to begin with basic research on the particularities of the population involved. Part of this research needs to be centered on who these new customers are, and where they come from, in order to better understand the realities under which they live. And, a good part of those realities are, of course, economic – never more so than in these times.

Like other populations, Asian Americans are at higher risk for certain eye conditions and overall health issues that can take a serious toll on vision. Many of these issues can be effectively treated if caught early, but many Asian Americans often aren’t getting – or seeking – the care they need. In some cases, the culprit is lack of awareness – but new research indicates that other factors may be playing a role as well.

As I write, the view out my window is of a sunlit summer day. It’s the kind that beckons you to get outside and do just about anything involving sun. Especially since in New Jersey, where I’m from, we see all types of weather; and you never know when a day like this will come along again.
